Our Mission
The Athens Area Diaper Bank strives to eradicate diaper need by providing diapers to low-income families in the Athens area, while raising public awareness of diaper need and its impact. The Athens Area Diaper Bank is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
Families that experience “diaper need” struggle to keep their children in clean diapers. With diapers costing about $1,000 every year, diaper need is a problem that 1 in 3 families in the United States face. In the Athens area, there are over 8,000 children at risk of experiencing diaper need. Because government assistance programs, such as WIC and food stamps, do not cover the cost of diapers, many families that experience diaper need often resort to re-using soiled diapers or sacrificing other necessities like food in order to purchase diapers. Diaper need is a problem that also keeps parents from going to school or working—without a supply of clean diapers, children cannot attend daycare or preschool programs.
Since the Athens Area Diaper Bank began in October 2015, we have collected from friends and family, local businesses, preschools, sororities and fraternities, UGA departments, local Girl Scouts, churches, and mothers’ groups. We distribute diapers to families via our partner agencies--other local nonprofits, agencies, and organizations in our 6-county service area. In our early days, we were sponsored by the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia as we grew and learned how to support our community. The AADB became an independent organization in late 2018.

Executive Director and Founder: Erin Campbell
Erin Campbell started the Athens Area Diaper Bank in October 2015. She first learned about diaper need when her middle daughter was still an infant, and was horrified that some families can’t keep their babies in clean diapers and even have to re-use dirty diapers. Erin quickly searched for the local diaper bank in the Athens community…yet there was none! Erin then started hustling for diapers with friends and family, and quickly pulled together a team of diaper do-gooders who together started the Athens Area Diaper Bank. Erin lives in the Athens area with her husband, three daughters, and dog. She is armed with a PhD in cell biology, a great support system of family and friends, and a passion for helping families climb out of poverty. Erin enjoys a dance party, a warm hug, and an organized closet. Contact Erin directly here.

Development and Grants Specialist: Chaz Ripley
Chaz is an Athenian, UGA graduate, and recent father. While in the throes of new fatherhood (i.e., sleep-deprived, hangry, and neck deep in dirty diapers), he became aware of diaper need and the associated challenges that many families face in our community, and he knew he had to take action. On a Friday night, you will almost certainly find him eating Taqueria Del Sol tacos while playing Settlers of Catan. Star Wars, pickleball, tabletop games, cooking, eating, coffee, and reading are a few of the things he loves. Contact Chaz directly here.
